Mills keen to extend run of clean sheets

York City Football Bootham Cresent

Published at 3:08pm 14th August 2017.

York City Manager Gary Mills has been speaking to Minster FM ahead of their match at home to Darlington on Tuesday night.

York have conceded just once in their opening three matches and Mills is keen for a run of two clean sheets to become three:

“To not concede goals is always a big thing for me. We can go and win games because we’ll always create chances, so [it’s about] keeping clean sheets, which I want another one tomorrow.”

“If we’re a hard team to beat, a hard team to score against then you’ve always got a chance of winning games.”

At the other end of the pitch, the Minstermen have netted seven times so far and Mills added that it is important for his side to take their chances:

“We’ve got players that not only can create but can score goals. We have to take them when they come along, we’ve done that in the last couple of games. Could have scored a couple more at Blyth, you know good chances, which we need to do.”

“I’m confident we can create chances and I’m confident that once players start sticking it in the back of the net, they’ll have the confidence to continue to do that.”

Regards Tuesday night’s match against Darlington, Mills said it is difficult to know what type of game to expect:

“You just don’t know in football, every game’s different. It might be a tight game that a goal is scored in the 94th minute to go and win it. If that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes. We’ll address it in the same way and try and create as many chances as we can.”

The match at Bootham Crescent kicks off at 19:45 and you can follow all the action on twitter @MinsterFM.
